Benefit Your Smile With Braces For Adults

Waterford, Norwich, & Groton, CT

Why You May Need Orthodontic Treatment As An Adult

Most people think of braces as something only teens have to go through, but more and more adults are getting braces to get a straighter, healthier smile. You may need orthodontic care as an adult for a number of reasons, such as:

  • Crowded Teeth – Because of wear and tear, tooth loss, or gum disease, our teeth can get closer together as we age. This can make it hard to bite and chew and cause cavities and gum disease.
  • Protruding Teeth – Teeth that stick out are more likely to get hurt and can make you feel bad about your smile.
  • Bad Bites (Malocclusion) – A bad bite, also called malocclusion, can cause pain in the jaw joint and muscles, headaches, and even TMD. When it is fixed with orthodontic care, these symptoms go away.
  • Spacing Issues – Tooth loss or crowding can leave gaps in your teeth, which can make your smile look incomplete. Getting orthodontic treatment to close the gaps can make your smile look better.

Orthodontic treatment can give you the smile you’ve always wanted, whether you want it to look good or work better. If you’re considering getting orthodontic treatment, schedule a consultation with Drs. O’Leary and Hack to see if it’s right for you.

Benefits Of Braces

Getting braces as an adult is a good idea for many reasons, including boosting your self-esteem and making your teeth healthier. Did you know that 4 million Americans wear braces? Twenty-five percent of those are adults. Technology has made appliances sleeker and more comfortable than ever before.

The biggest benefit of braces is, of course, a beautiful smile. We think you deserve to have a smile that makes you happy. By getting braces, we can help you regain the confidence to show off your smile to the world.

Your oral health is a good indicator of how healthy the rest of your body is. Periodontal disease and tooth decay can be signs of overall poor health. All types of braces can straighten your teeth, so it’s easier to keep your mouth clean, and you don’t have more orthodontic issues in the future.

Am I A Candidate For Braces?

Even if you are an adult, you are still a candidate for braces! For some adults, a cosmetic fix like straighter teeth is exactly what they want out of braces treatment, while for others, braces may be needed to correct more advanced issues such as bite misalignments. Whatever issues you are looking to correct, our professional team at OASECT can help you obtain the beautiful smile you’ve always wanted. An initial consultation with one of our orthodontists can help determine the length of treatment, cost, and most effective way for you to reach your goal.

Treatment Options

Drs. O’Leary and Hack can help you figure out the most practical and effective way to reach your goal. During your first appointment, your overall oral health will be looked at. Diagnostic scans and digital images can be used to get a good idea of what kind of orthodontic care you need. Once they have a clear idea of what treatments would be best, we will review your plan in detail. You will be given a custom treatment plan with details about costs and time frames. In the meantime, here are some options for you to consider:

  • Metal braces – The Damon System self-ligating brackets allow lighter forces with less friction than traditional braces, so our patients experience less discomfort. Teeth are able to slide along the archwires freely, speeding up tooth movement, which means fewer adjustments are required. As a result, your appointments will be faster and fewer in number.
  • Ceramic (Clear) braces – Damon braces are also available in clear brackets. While both options are small, comfortable, and easy to keep clean, clear braces are a more discreet option. While they provide the same corrective ability as metal brackets, they may not offer the same level of durability, so they may not be for everyone. However, if you are able to properly care for your braces, clear braces are a great option for anyone looking for a more discreet treatment option!
